TRISH’S TIDBITS FOR JUNE 2010

Author: Date: 21/06/2010 11:15:15 AM

I hope that you have been enjoying the various stories that you find on the website and through enews.

Our Tresses for Princesses component of the PCAF has been going extremely well. We have had many donations of hair from both adults and children highlighted by our latest story about Forster Primary School. There is a world shortage of human hair exacerbated by the hair extension market that is buying up a considerable percentage of hair normally purchased by the wigmakers.

SBS ran a very interesting story on this topic on Foreign Correspondent several months ago. The story focused on the Hindu women and children in India who, for religious reasons, have their hair shaved off. The hair is now being bought by an English entrepreneur, and used in a billion dollar industry providing hair extensions to the European market.

Harper’s Bazaar magazine, the June/July (Australian) issue 2010 has a wonderful article called “The Bald Truth”. It is great to see that a fashion magazine has included a story about alopecia, and the effects it has on someone with this condition. Congratulations to the author for her courage in telling her story.

Our Trivia night, held on Saturday May 1st, was a great success. Not only did we raise over $4,700 for the foundation, we raised awareness of alopecia with the people who attended our function. It was quite a competitive evening, and I am sure that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves.  Thank you to the committee for all their hard work and dedication in making the night so successful.

Our next function for the Princess Charlotte Alopecia foundation is a picnic in the park. Again we have chosen Bi-Centennial Park in Homebush Bay, a central position for most people.

The date for the picnic is Sunday AUGUST 15TH 2010 commencing at approximately 11am.

The meeting spot will be between Lilies on the Park café and the play equipment.

Please wear your PCAF hats if you have them, and be prepared to have a fun day.

Bring your own food and drinks and hopefully good weather.

Last year we had a very successful day, and many families enjoyed meeting others who share this condition. The kids had fun on the play equipment, and riding their bikes around the many tracks available. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and share stories of your experiences of living with alopecia.

If you have any questions about the arrangements please ring the PCAF mobile phone 0407722360 or send us an email.
