TRISHS TIDBITS FOR AUGUST 2009
Author: Date: 31/07/2009 9:27:20 AM

We have an exciting “Hair Raising” day coming up on Sunday 16th August at Narrabeen RSL between 12 and 3 pm. please come along and support Lachlan and his parents who have organised a fun packed afternoon. This includes a BBQ, games, a cake stall and even thong throwing. Please contact Katherine on 0403044989
A Hair Raising fundraiser is a great way of supporting the foundation, raising awareness of alopecia in your local community and contributing to the activities organised to benefit all members.
The Wiggins girls are also doing some wonderful work in alopecia awareness.
Teniah recently donated some of her long beautiful tresses to her sister Imogen, who has alopecia. Teniah’s hair will be used to make a wig for Imogen. This is a wonderful example of sisterly love.
Teniah was recently a NSW state finalist in the Girlfriend Model competition, and although she did not go onto the finals, she is certainly a winner. Teniah’s long hair was her trademark, but with her new short bob, her beauty still shines through.
Teniah was interviewed on FM station 99.3 about her experiences in the Girlfriend Modelling competition. She told the audience to” just be yourself”. She also talked about Imogen having alopecia, and said that although alopecia is not life threatening, it is life changing. We all certainly know that either as parents or sufferers ourselves.
Congratulations to both Teniah and Imogen for being wonderful ambassadors for the Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation and an inspiration to us all.
I have included the names of some books that can be purchased on Amazon that incorporate stories about alopecia.
For the children
Princess Alopecia by - Yaacov Petterseil
The Princess Who Lost Her Hair by- Tololwa Mollel
Rosie the imperfect Angel by- Sandra Peckinpah and Trisha Moore
Because of Anya by- Margaret Peterson Haddix
The girl with no hair by- Elizabeth Murphy-Melas and Alex Hernandez
For the teens
Fairest of them all by- Jan Blazanin
Bald as a Bean by- Nancy Parsons
And a general book
Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Coping with hair loss by –Wendy Thompson and Jerry Shapiro.
I have not read any of these books, but feel they may be of benefit to families and friends to help identify with those who have hair loss.
I hope that everyone has sent off a letter to the Commonwealth Government re the GST on wigs. It is important that everyone puts in some effort to help others and themselves. If we leave it up to one or two people to do all the work then nothing will be achieved. You do not need to use the letter supplied, it is a guide about relevant information.
I would love to hear from anyone who would like to contribute a story for the tidbits. Please email to trish1842@hotmail.com.
