Hair Raising day at Narrabeen RSL

The sun was shining, with the temperature rising for the afternoon of hair-raising fun at Narrabeen RSL yesterday.

The day started at 12 o’clock and was action packed for the following 3 hours. There was soccer with Pino Palamara an ex Aussie Representative player, several story telling sessions followed by a thong throwing competition.

All ages were catered for with a jumping castle for the under 6’s, plaster painting, sand art (which was extremely popular and provided some wonderful works of art) badge making and the very tasty biscuit decorating. These activities continued throughout the afternoon, and Martine’s nephew was still painting another plaster master- piece as the day was winding down. The children created many lovely potential Christmas presents.

During this time we all enjoyed our sausage sandwiches or home made pumpkin soup followed up with home made cakes and slices kindly baked and donated by Kath’s friends and family.

At 1.30 pm Yvette and Lucinda Middleton, the mother and sister of Angus, had their long locks cut to contribute to the making of a human hair wig for an alopecia sufferer. Congratulations to you both for your wonderful gift of hair, and may I add that you both looked beautiful with your new bobs.

For all the mad Manly fans, there was a meet and greet with Sea Eagles player Matt Balin. A football session, and the signing of a poster of the Manly players followed this. The boys especially enjoyed this exciting opportunity to have a rugby league player interact with them.

For the older, but not necessarily smarter age group, Kath had organised a trivia competition. It was a true test of memory at which I failed miserably, and Kath was giving out no hints.

The day rounded off with the results of the silent auction, the cake raffles and the grand raffle.

This indeed was an outstanding day organised by Kath, Lachlan and all their family and friends. It is a wonderful example of hard work, dedication and the generosity of the local community who turned up in their hundreds in support of the Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation.

Congratulations again to the Skaarup family for providing us with such an entertaining and exciting day.
