The first Alopecia Awareness week was a great success. Thanks to all that were involved.
One of the activities was the Alopecia Awareness Walk - Lachlan has kindly written this for us about the walk.
Hi my name is Lachlan I am 11 years old, I am very lucky to know the
Adamson family as I have Alopecia. Until last year I had never met any
other kids like me.
For Alopecia Awareness Week, the Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation
organised a walk from North Sydney Pool to the Homebush pool. Lots of
famous people came with us like Stephanie Rice, even my brother who is
8 came too. The new Billboard on the truck followed us along the road.
Cars & trucks beeped their horns at us.
It was fun walking over the Harbour Bridge I have only done that once
before, then came the Anzac bridge – that was the first time I have
walked over this bridge.
The day was very tiring & hot but I kept on going. Matty said the
walk was 12km but it was a big walk over 20km. My brother , Charlotte
& Milly made it to Balmain. A few others dropped out along the way.
I was just about to give up, when we stopped at a corner store & I
got a paddle pop – it was the paddle pop that helped me make it to the
end.
Later we had a swimming relay race with celebrities, Stephanie was in our team & she won the race for our team.

The Celebrity Swim
Our second function for Alopecia Awareness Week was a
celebrity swim at Homebush Aquatic Centre after the walk.
We had a large crowd gathered with Stephanie Rice, Mal Meninga, Paul
“Nobby” Clarke and Ed Phillips racing against our finest young swimmers
and very glamorous girls. The pool was awash with laughter, many belly
flop type diving entries and just general good fun.
Stephanie glided down the pool with ease and grace, and encouraged our
littlies to finish their laps of the pool. Cheers rang out when the
final lap was completed, and everyone who competed was declared a
winner.
Four very generous people donated their hair to Tresses for Princesses,
and Stephanie looked like she has the hang of the scissors with her
adept cutting of the ponytails.
Matt graced us with his wonderful commentary, and again we must thank
him and Bec for their amazing dedication to the Foundation Thank you to
the committee members who helped in the organisation of the day, and to
the wonderful people who supported this great cause.
I hope that the morning walker’s blisters have healed. What a superb
effort by everyone who participated, and a wonderful way to showcase
the new banner.
There are some more photos on the
gallery page and we will be adding to these aswell.
